AQHA and WEAVER QUARTER HORSES TEAM UP TO OFFER FREE WEANLING TO YOUTH
The American Quarter Horse Association and Weaver Quarter Horses are presenting a ground-breaking opportunity for youth to acquire a free ranch-bred American Quarter Horse and perfect their skills in horse training, showing and sale. The only requirement is the youth must be present at the Weaver's annual production sale, and they must have the means and understanding to take care of the weanling. AQHA will pay for a lifetime membership for this youth into the American Quarter Horse Youth Association and this colt will be eligible for the AQHA Ranching Heritage Young Horse Development Program.
The Young Horse Development Project will give the youth the chance to acquire knowledge and skills at designated events and earn scholarships and prizes. A passport for permanent positive identification and a Project Book will be issued to youth members November 1st. The project continues through the animal's 2-year-old year and will culminate with the member presenting his or her project animal as a prospect under saddle. All Weaver Quarter Horse colts purchased at the sale qualify for the program and any weanling purchased at the Weaver Quarter Horse sale will be eligible for the Young Horse Development Project.
Weaver Quarter Horses will review the project book and presentation and upon acceptance allow the members to sell their finished saddle horse at the Weaver Quarter Horse annual sale.
The Ranching Heritage Challenge will be for foals exclusively bred and nominated by Ranching Heritage Breeders. By 2013, AQHA will host events at stock shows, state fairs, ranch rodeos, PRCA Rodeos for Open 4-year-old horses and Non-pro sweepstakes for 5-year and older horses.
One of the great separate features of the Ranching Heritage Challenge will be the Non-Pro Trail Trials with emphasis on fun and developing the rider-horse partnership. This is for the recreationalist rider and their horse to exhibit fundamental skills and harmony.
Weaver Quarter Horses has been raising proven cow bred horses that feature speed, good bone, feet and withers. They have the thickness, athletic ability and the natural cow sense needed to succeed on a ranch, arena or trail. All colts raised by Weaver Quarter Horses will be eligible for all Ranching Heritage Breeders Events.
